Hatra is one of the most ancient cities in Mesopotamia: its distinctive cultural elements draw on early Iraqi traditions, and this important city features prominently in the history of the Arabs before Islam.
The social, economic, political and architectural elements of Hatra, along with its construction techniques, and the excellent usage of local building materials, are considered good examples of environmental harmony. The city plan is distinguished by an integrated texture of function, efficiency, scenery, and a defensive system, along with central units that were easily accessible.
